Living Room Conversations

About This Organization

Living Room Conversations is a new, open-source project exploring the power of revitalized civil discourse in America. It provides a platform for people to come together through social networks to engage in a self-guided conversations about a specific topics. Typically, conversations have co-hosts who hold differing views, perhaps from different ethnic groups, socioeconomic backgrounds or political parties. Each co-host invites two friends and the group follows an easy-to-use format and set of questions to get acquainted with each other and with each other’s viewpoints on a chosen topic. These conversations foster new relationships and often reveal common ground.

Living room conversations happen in three easy steps:

  • Invite a co-host, pick a date!
  • Select a topic (use our suggestions or create your own)
  • Invite friends (each co-host invites two friends)

These conversations have been piloted and tested for many different topics (see here for a full list).
